Obviously a very important video game as it introduced the most popular video game character to 3D spaces, but the camera control coupled with the very precise input necessary a lot of the time makes this a hard game to recommend to newcomers today. I'd rather play the NES and SNES 2D games again because those definitely aged better in my opinion. Soundtrack is great and level design, from what I've seen, is excellent nevertheless.

Unfortunately, at the time, I put an end to the challenge due to other commitments, which is why this review was kept short. Obviously not what the game deserves, but it is what it is.

OVERALL | 79/100 ½

As far as I remember from my time playing this last year (I am publishing this 7 months after putting the game down and leaving that very short review on Backloggd), my main issue truly was about the camera. Making jumps that need a lot of accuracy but having the controls and camera be against you was infuriating. The game is definitely in need of a remake. Or at least I would welcome one. Because everything else about the game looked great. The visuals of course were incredible for the time thanks to the move to true 3D. The level design was expectedly excellent. The music is iconic. Not much more the game could have done right, but the couple things it did "wrong" / that didn't age well are VERY noticeable. Growing pains I suppose.
